According to Kuami Eugene, he had a conversation with his mum back in Fadama even before he went to MTN Hitmaker.

He said: “During a conversation with my mum while watching Ghana Music Awards, I told her I would stand on this stage the following year and true to what I said, I was nominated for Unsung Category which I won making me perform on the night the following year.”

He further mentioned that his mum after his first VGMA performance recalled the moment he made a promise of performing on the VGMA stage.

“While we were having that conversation, I told my mum I would win the VGMA New Artiste of the Year the following year which happened to her surprise”

He continued: “After winning the VGMA New Artiste of the Year, I promised my mum I would bring home the ultimate award but that never happened because Ebony beat me to it.”

Kuami Eugene after losing the award to the late Ebony, made another promise to win the Artiste of the Year but that never happened because of the chaos caused by Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy.

Kuami Eugene finally went home with the ultimate prize the following year after beating Kofi Kinaata, Sarkodie, Medikal and others to the Artiste of the Year award.
