Captain of the senior national team Black Stars, Andre Ayew has revealed he wasn’t well for two days before Ghana’s first match against the Atlas Lions of Morocco in the Group C opener at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
Dede said he felt his teammates needed him badly that is why he risked it.
“I have not been feeling well for the past two days, I wanted to play, my colleagues wanted me on the pitch and I did everything because I have been waiting for this for three years now, we lost and I was unlucky to add a cut on my eye to it,” Ayew disclosed.
Eventually, the former Swansea star failed to glitter and was conspicuously absent from the cagey encounter with the Morrocons which saw Sofiane Boufal pounce on a loose ball to score the only goal in the 83rd minute.
Ayew is still beaming with optimism about his team’s progression to the next stage of the competition despite the huge setback initiated by the Moroccans.
“I think we can get through and we will get through cos it is our duty and we will make sure we qualify to the next stage.
“We lost the first game in 2010, 2015 but we pulled through. We were not expecting this start but we will make it,” he added.
Meanwhile, Ghana could make amends when they face Gabon and Comoros on Januray 14 and 18 respectively.
