I’ll defend the Ghana shirt- Iñaki Williams proudly says as he changes his mind to play for Black Stars

Months after he snubbed representing the Black Stars, Athletic Bilbao forward Iñaki Williams has switched allegiance to Ghana and has promised to ‘defend the shirt.’

He excitedly uploaded a new video of himself where he was heard confirming that henceforth he’ll be available for selection ahead of the World Cup in Qatar.

Iñaki was born in Spain to Ghanaian parents and is eligible to play for the West African country.

He made his Spain debut on May 29, 2016. However, the striker had no further competitive appearance with Spain to tie him to the European nation.

As a result, he was eligible for a nationality switch due to FIFA’s rules.

Iñaki had previously ditched the possibility of playing for Ghana when he was approached by the GFA, saying, “My parents are from Accra, and I really enjoy going.

“But I wasn’t born or raised there, my culture is here, and there are players who would mean more.

“I don’t think it would be right to take the place of someone who really deserves to go and feels Ghana 100%,” he added.
