I’m Not Encouraging Alcoholism, Releasing “Alcohol” Single Was My Step To Explore Other Sounds – Joeboy

Popular Nigerian singer, Joeboy born Akinfenwa Donus has waded into his latest song, “Alcohol” which has since brought up diverse reactions on social media.

The singer’s latest hit single was greeted with people using the song for TikTok Challenge and the reception was about them taking alcohol and pouring all sorts of harmful liquor on their bodies.

Many people were of the view that Joeboy is encouraging alcoholism but has debunked it in an interview with the online platform, Genius, saying that wasn’t his intention.

In his words, “Being tipsy inspired ‘Alcohol’. There are different challenges in life; it never ends. There is always something one needs to fix or solve. I am not encouraging alcoholism in any way but I understand that people need breaks but trying to run away from one’s problems won’t fix them at the end of the day.”

Speaking on the success of the song, he noted that it’s a step in a right direction for his sound as it’s very special to him looking at how big it’s becoming adding that it’s not the regular Joeboy sound that people are used to.

According to him he wanted to explore different sounds as he’s known as a lover boy hence has been doing love music all the time.

He also said, “I was a bit nervous before the song was released because I was not sure if people were going to accept it. It is totally different from what I normally do. The reception has been amazing so far. It is my biggest charting song since the beginning of my career.”
