Rick Harrison Biography
Harrison was born on March 22, 1965, in Davidson, North Carolina. He grew up in a family of pawnbrokers and spent much of his childhood working in his father’s pawn shop in San Diego, California. Harrison learned the trade at a young age, and by the time he was a teenager, he was already a skilled appraiser and negotiator.
After leaving school, Harrison worked as a busboy and construction worker before returning to the pawn shop business. In the late 1980s, he moved to Las Vegas and opened his own pawn shop with his father, Richard “The Old Man” Harrison. Together, they built the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop into a thriving business, attracting customers from all over the world.
Harrison’s business acumen and expertise in appraising items caught the attention of television producers, and in 2009, he became one of the stars of the reality TV series “Pawn Stars.” The show quickly became a hit, and Harrison became a household name. He has since appeared on other television shows and has written a book about his experiences in the pawnshop industry.

In a lawsuit filed in Nevada’s Clark County District Court on Thursday, Joanne Harrison lays open some family history and sore feelings that date back two decades and appear to have come to a head around the time her husband, “Old Man” Richard Harrison, died on June 25, 2018. When the “Old Man” died, Rick Harrison took control of many aspects of the business and accounts that Joanne Harrison says belong to her, according to the lawsuit.
In addition to helping her husband lay the groundwork that turned into the “Pawn Stars” show, she says she is entitled to ownership in family businesses and holdings including the Pawn Shop (47.5%), G&S Pawn Shop (50%), Harrison Properties (35%) and JoRich (100%). The lawsuit alleges her stake in the businesses has been reduced without her consent, and payments to her have shrunk in some cases and completely ended in others.
