Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah Bonsu has said he never said Akans nurturing presidential ambition in the NPP should be asked to back down so Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia should lead the party.
Recall that a group calling itself Concerned Northern Grassroots of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) called for the head of Osei Kyei-Mensah Bonsu for saying it’s about time the party selected a non-Akan candidate, preferably Bawumia to succeed Nana Akufo Addo.
However, clarifying the situation on Peace FM’s ‘Kokrokoo’ morning show said his words were misconstrued.
“Even though I believe I have the competence to contest, during serious introspection I believe the time is not right for me to say I can succeed a third succession Akan . . . I’ve not said anywhere that an Akan can not lead the party,” he said.
