Jamal Edwards, born on August 24, 1990, in Luton, England, was raised by his mother Brenda Edwards, stepfather Patrick, and younger sister Tanisha. His mother, an actress, had aspirations for Jamal to pursue a similar career, but he had a passion for music.
He honed his skills in ICT and music while attending Acton High School and later at Ealing Green College, where he earned a BTEC diploma in Media Moving Image.
As a teenager in London, Edwards began filming and editing music videos for local artists and uploading them to YouTube. His early work caught the attention of major recording artists and record labels, leading to him becoming a prominent figure in the British music scene.
In 2006, at the age of 15, Edwards founded SB.TV, a media company that specializes in producing content for young people. The company grew to become one of the most influential youth media brands in the UK, with a wide range of programming that includes music videos, interviews, and lifestyle content.
SB.TV was also recognized for its positive impact on the lives of young people, providing opportunities for them to develop their talents and connect with their peers.
Edwards received numerous awards and accolades for his work with SB.TV, including the BET Award for Best UK Music Video, the Black Entertainment Comedy and Arts (BECA) award for Outstanding Achievement in Music, and the Mayor of London’s Young Londoner award for Entrepreneur of the Year.
Unfortunately, Jamal passed away at the age of 31 from a cardiac arrhythmia caused by recreational drugs. He died on February 20, 2022, at his mother’s home in Acton, London.
