Jay Weinberg is a drummer and American musician who was born on September 8, 1990. The American percussionist Max Weinberg is his father.
He has performed with the American punk band Revelling and filled in for his father, Bruce Springsteen, on drums during a 2009 tour with the E Street Band.
For a short time in 2010, he played drums for Madball. Weinberg was an integral part of Against Me! throughout their formative years (2011 and 2012).
Weinberg joined the American heavy metal band Slipknot as their drummer in 2014. He replaced Joey Jordison, Slipknot’s drummer from 1995 to 2013, making him the band’s youngest member.
Max Weinberg, a drummer, joined the E Street Band in 1975; Weinberg’s mother, Rebecca “Becky” (Schick), was an educator. The New Jersey township of Middletown was his childhood home. Both his mother (a Methodist) and father (a Jew) were immigrants. Ali Weinberg Rogin (who is married to his brother-in-law) is his sister.
He was the goalkeeper for his youth travel ice hockey team. He started going to E Street Band gigs in 1999–2000, when he was 9 years old and continued doing so over the years, notably in Europe.
A great appreciation for heavy metal and other extreme music genres was instilled in him around the same time his father brought him to Ozzfest to watch Slipknot, and his father also introduced him to a broad range of other music. At the ages of 9 and 12, he picked up the guitar and 12 or 13, the bass.
Then, at the age of 14, he began playing drums, using his father’s old equipment and with just a few sporadic lessons from his father. By the following year, he was making appearances onstage with punk bands the Bouncing Souls and the Used.
He was a member of the Chaosis, a New Jersey metal band. He attended and graduated from Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School in 2008, where he was a member of the hockey team and the band Sadie Mae.
In 2014, Weinberg earned his degree from New Jersey’s Stevens Institute of Technology. In August 2008, he became a member of Revelling, a New York punk band that performs to intimate crowds at locations like the Ace of Clubs club in Manhattan and other locales in Brooklyn. He collaborates with the band on composition and arrangement.
