The wreckage of the plane was found in the early morning hours of December 9, and all seven people on board, including Rivera and her entourage, were killed.

The cause of the crash was initially unclear, but it was later determined that the plane was not properly certified to fly and that the pilot was not licensed to fly at the time of the accident.
