Kimmel was raised in the Mill Basin section of Brooklyn, New York, where he was born.
He is the oldest of Joan (Iacono) and James John Kimmel’s three children. James John Kimmel was an executive at IBM and worked at American Express.
He was nine years old when his family relocated to Las Vegas. After completing his high school education, he spent one year at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas before transferring to Arizona State University. 2013 saw him get an honorary degree from UNLV.
Frank Potenza (“Uncle Frank”), Kimmel’s uncle, frequently appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! from 2003 until his passing in 2011.
