Eric Bekoe reveals how he ended up at Asante Kotoko. The former Kumasi Asante Kotoko striker, Eric Bekoe joined from Kpando Hearts of Lions.

In 2007/08, he helped Kumasi Asante Kotoko win the league title and the FA Cup, as well as being named goal king.

In an interview with The Fabulous Zone, he describes his journey to Asante Kotoko. For example, “Nowadays, a good agent or management can play Kotoko or Hearts of Oak.”

“Consider the journey I had to take to get to Kotoko. Even playing Kotoko at home is difficult, let alone in Kumasi.

“He then asked if I wanted to play for Asante Kotoko, to which I replied that I would be delighted to do so.

“So, when we arrived in Accra, he introduced me to the late Jerry Asare and asked which teams I had played for, and I said Liberty, Hearts of Lions.”

“Even though I was in Kumasi for two months, most people didn’t know I was living with the military man at Officers Messrs at Ridge.

“After that game, Jerry Asare thought I could play for Kotoko. “Tom Kruger and others saw my talent at Kumaca Park.

If juju works, why does a juju man tell you to go train and not sleep and only use the magic portion given to you?”

“When asked if he has ever visited a juju man, he says no because he is a strong Presbyterian and does not believe in juju as it’s just some mind games.

Any of my teammates at any of my clubs will tell you I was a very prayerful person who led our worship sessions.

To be a footballer, you must train more, and to be a driver, you must rest more.”

As a reminder, Eric Kwabena Bekoe has retired from active football and is now the head coach of Division Two side, Montreal United F/C on a two-year deal.

He’s expected to use his vast experience and knowledge of local football to groom players at the Nima-based club.
