Ghanaians have reacted with sheer shock and surprise at the directive by the Ghana Insititute of Journalism (GIJ) to defer the academic year of students who fail to pay their school fees on time.
Experienced broadcaster Berla Mundi just like many like-minded Ghanaians has described the action by the school as unfair.
She wrote: I’m told the registration portal for #GIJ has been down for some months, so students who paid their fees before the deadline have not been able to register. They have filed complaints with authorities of the school and nothing has been done. This is unfair! #justiceforgijstudents

Ghanaian actor cum politician John Dumelo has also said GIJ is acting unfairly towards these students especially in a CVOID time where everyone is hard up for money.
It’s unfair to tell students to defer after late payments. Simply unfair! #justiceforgijstudents

Meanwhile, a planned demonstration by students of the school was thwarted when the school locked the gates.
Meanwhile, the school campuses at Dzorwulu and 32 Gamel Abdul Nasser Ave, Accra have seen students picket to register the displeasure over the directive by the school.
Some students and interested individuals have been sharing their views on social media:
Funny how GIJ is teaching Public Relations but doesn’t know how to manage their publics 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️
Thank God I’m done . #justiceforgijstudents

Dear @benkoku, @KojoAB @kokui_selormey @nathan_quao see, police to scare off students who just want to change their family narrative. Their only crime is that they couldn't pay fees on time. #CitiCBS #justiceforgijstudents pic.twitter.com/OzHIw6GF0f
