Ke Huy Quan was born on August 20, 1971, in Saigon, South Vietnam (present-day Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam) to Vietnamese parents of ethnic Chinese (Hoa) descent. He has eight siblings.

In 1984’s Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and The Goonies, Quan portrayed Short Round and Data, respectively (1985).

He had appearances in the movies Encino Man and the sitcom Head of the Class before stopping acting due to a lack of possibilities and earning a film degree from the USC School of Cinematic Arts.

He later worked as an assistant director and stunt coordinator. With his acting comeback in the science fiction movie Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022), Quan won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of a timid husband navigating the multiverse.

Quan became a child actor at age 12, starring as Harrison Ford’s sidekick Short Round in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. The casting director auditioned children at Castelar Elementary School, which also included his younger brother.

Quan speaks Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, and English with ease. He is Vietnamese-American and descended from Han Chinese, more precisely from the Chinese Hoa minority in Vietnam.

Quan lives in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, and is married. His Goonies co-star Jeff Cohen, who also serves as Quan’s entertainment attorney, is a close buddy.
