Born in Mascot, Tennessee, on September 12, 1993, Kelsea Ballerini grew up in Knoxville. Her father Ed is a former sales manager for a country radio station, and her mother Carla is a marketer. Ballerini started taking dance lessons when she was three years old.
She also sang in the school and church choirs as she grew up. She attended Centennial High School in Franklin and Central High School in Knoxville when she was a kid.
Ballerini spent two years attending Lipscomb University in Nashville for her higher education before quitting to pursue a career in music.
