Kofi Kinaata is not a songwriter but rather a good lyricist – Rex Omar

Veteran musician, Rex Omar has posited that Takoradi-based rapper/singer, Martin King Arthur, popularly known as Kofi Kinaata is not a songwriter as many have perceived him to be.

Over the years, Kofi Kinaata has shown that he is a good songwriter considering the content in the sings he has released so far and no wonder, he won back-to-back awards for his songwriting prowess at the 2016/2019 VGMA’s.

In a phone-in interview with Arnold Elavanyo on Zylofon’s Showbiz Agenda, the ‘Abiba’ hitmaker was asked to mention his top 5 Ghanaian songwriters of all time and surprisingly categorised Kofi Kinaata as a lyricist and not a songwriter.

He listed Amandzeba Nat Brew, OJ, Okyeame Kwame, Rev Yawson, Akwaboah and Ephraim Amo as his favourite all-time songwriters. Though he didn’t rule out Kofi Kinaata’s writing prowess, he was of the fact that his lyrical prowess is one of a kind considering that his songs have good content and the lyrics are well arranged.

According to him, most of Kofi Kinaata’s jargons used in his songs are most of the time, already coined words by veteran musicians and everyday-used-words.

This comes after the release of Kofi Kinaata’s new song, ‘Things Fall Apart’ which has received massive praise from most musicians and Ghanaians alike. To most of them, the song speaks volume of our everyday lifestyle confirming that Kofi Kinaata is a good songwriter and should win the 2020 VGMA songwriter award for the third time.
