A-list singer Kuame Eugene, who also bears the moniker Rockstar, has said he’s gradually relegating that name to the background as he takes a new name ‘Africa Number One.’
The award winning High-life singer said when he emerged as an artist, he believed in himself that he’ll one day become a star, reason why he took the name Rockstar.
He told MzGee on 3FM that although he was mocked for his name, time proved that he reflected the true meaning of the Rockstar name.
In that regard, he wants to use the new moniker Africa Number 1 so he becomes number one on the continent.
He said: “When I started calling myself Rockstar, people were mocking me and asking what I meant by that. But now when I go on stage and scream ROCK, they answer STAR. And I’m wondering if its not the same people who mocked me when I began calling myself that.”
He added: So very soon people will begin to believe that I’ll be Africa’s number one. Even as at now, people respond when I say Africa with Number 1. I’m speaking it into being. Besides I’ve won an AFRIMA as Most Prominent African Artiste of the Year, I have a lot of African nominations, I’m going for an African tour this year so little by little we are getting there.”
