Kyle Busch biography
Busch was born in Nevada’s Las Vegas. When he was six years old, he took his first driving lessons by using a homemade go-kart to navigate the cul-de-sac in his family’s Las Vegas neighbourhood.
Despite being unable to use the throttle, Busch was nevertheless able to learn the fundamentals from his father Tom, who operated the gas pedal while Busch was in control of the car.
Busch grew up helping his father and elder brother Kurt at the family garage, and at the age of ten, he was named crew chief for his brother’s midget car team.
Busch started racing in 1998, not long after turning 13; from 1999 to 2001, he won over 65 races in legends car competitions, taking home two track championships at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Bullring short-track, before switching to late models. In the 2001 season, Busch won ten races in late model competition at the Bullring.
Busch debuted in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series at the age of 16 when he took over Nathan Haseleu’s No. 99 Ford for Roush Racing after the latter was fired midway through the 2001 campaign.
He made his series debut at Indianapolis Raceway Park, where he finished ninth in his opening race. He was in the lead in his second race at Chicago Motor Speedway when his truck ran out of fuel with 12 laps remaining.
