Afterward, in 1999, she received a master’s degree in social work from Arizona State University, and in 2004 she graduated with a law degree from the same institution.

In 2003, Sinema became an adjunct professor teaching master’s-level policy and grant-writing programs at Arizona State University School of Social Work and an adjunct business law professor at Arizona Summit Law School, formerly known as Phoenix School of Law.

Sinema described herself as a “Prada socialist” and started out in politics with the Arizona Green Party before switching to the Arizona Democratic Party in 2004.

Sinema initially campaigned as an independent ally with the Arizona Green Party for the House of Representatives in 2002. With 8% of the vote in a race with five candidates, she came in last place.

That performance did not deter her. She would try again later.

In 2004, Sinema switched to the Democratic Party.

Sinema and David Lujan defeated Wally Straughn, the incumbent representative for Arizona’s 15th district, with 37% of the vote for Sinema and 34% for Lujan.

After that, Sinema won three following elections with more than 30% of the vote.

Kyrsten Sinema is the senior senator from Arizona; Democrat Mark Kelly is the junior senator from Arizona.

Kelly defeated Martha McSally, who was chosen to fill the Senate seat left open by Jon Kyl’s resignation after chosen to do so after John McCain’s death.

McSally was Sinema’s opponent in the 2018 general election.

Sinema cast a vote to approve William Barr as attorney general on February 14, 2019.
