La Côte d’Ivoire has moved from zero to hero as they have emerged as the winners in the just-ended 34th edition of the African Cup of Nations tournament after their win against Nigeria in the final match.
La Côte d’Ivoire played the final match with Nigeria on 11th February 2024 at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan .
In the 38 minutes, Nigeria’s defender and captain, William Troost-Ekong, scored with a header to a corner making Nigeria lead with a goal.
Franck Kessie equalized in the 62nd minute for Ivory Coast making the scores 1 for Nigeria and 1 for La Côte d’Ivoire.
Sebastien Haller scored the winning goal nine minutes from the end as host Ivory Coast came from behind to claim a third Africa Cup of Nations title with a 2-1 victory over Nigeria in the final.
Taking to their official social media handles, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced that La Côte d’Ivoire has won the 34th edition of the African Cup of Nations.
They posted a group picture of the team of La Côte d’Ivoire and captioned it “Côte d’Ivoire are crowned African Champions for the third time in their history!”
Meanwhile, this is the third time La Côte d’Ivoire has won AFCON; They won in 1992 in Senegal, and in 2015 in Equatorial Guinea.
