News broke in the early hours of Monday of Lampard’s sacking by Chelsea.
Results have not been going the way of the Blues, and given the impatience of owner, Roman Abramovich, it was always a matter of when and not if Lampard will be relieved of his duties as Head Coach at the Bridge.
Lampard had been given so much money to spend in the transfer window, having been unable to sign anyone due to the transfer ban on them previously. He resorted to using the academy boys to do the job.
He did bring in the likes of Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Kai Harvetz, Edouard Mendy amongst others when the ban got lifted.
And having spent so much, and with appalling results that sees them 9th on the league log trailing leaders Manchester United by 11 points, the Chelsea record goalscorer with 211 goals was always going to be asked to stay away from the management duties.
So we sought to look out for the reactions of the Chelsea stars after Lampard’s sacking by Chelsea was confirmed.
Club captain, Cesar Azpilicueta, who played with Lampard as a teammate and then coached by him, had this to say;
“I have shared many memories with you since 2012, first as team-mate and then as manager. I’ve learned so much from you. I wish you all the best for the future.”
Billy Gilmour, the Scottish youngster who had some good games under Lampard’s management thanked him for believing in him.
“Thank you for giving me an opportunity and for your faith and trust in me. It’s been an honour to learn from you,” he wrote on Twitter.
