‘Leagalise marijuana or we won’t vote in the 2020 elections’ – Rastafarians in Ghana says ahead of their first ever demonstration

Ghana is among the many countries which frown on the legalisation of marijuana which is considered a hard and abusive drug.

However, several popular public figures such as Samini, John Dumelo, Kwaw Kese, Kwasi Pratt, the Late Kofi Annan among others claim legalising the substance will create revenue for the state but the government is yet to give it a listening ear.

In this has some Rastafarians living in Ghana reportedly decided to embark on a demonstration against the government for criminalising marijuana in the country.

In a post on Facebook Monday, the association said they are ready to stage the first ever demonstration against the government and stakeholders on Wednesday, May 8, 2019, and the said protest is scheduled to come off at the Freedom and Justice Park at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.

They urged the public and anyone “who’ve been harassed by the police for a roll of herb” to throw their support behind them and join the parade.

“If you’ve ever been harassed by the police for a roll of herb, this march is for you, to all beneficiaries of the herb, investors, dealers, farmers etc…Sharp!!!!!!!!!

Beneficiaries of the herb, investors, dealers, farmers among others are not excluded from the list of those expected to turn up at the event.

The Rastafarians noted that they wouldn’t exercise their franchise at the 2020 December elections if nobody listens to them.

This is a “march for freedom,” the Rastafarians said.
