Twene Jonas has incurred the wrath of many Ghanaians and people linked to the Ashanti Kingdom for the tantrums he threw at the Asantehene for failing to stamp out “Galamsey”.

Twene Jonas, in his usual Facebook live session, described the Asantehene with very hard and harsh words on the back of a speech the latter made where he lamented over how “Galamsey” has destroyed and keeps destroying the environment.

The Asantehene during that speech at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology a couple of weeks ago said some government officials reached out to him asking him not to speak so loud and profound about the galamsey menace in order not to wash the dirty linens of the government in public.

Asantehene went on to state that he knows the people destroying the water bodies and the environment in their search for gold in his area and believes Ghanaians know these people too.

These words from the Asantehene did not make many Ghanaians happy who believe he (the Asantehene) has a mandate to protect his immediate environment and ensure that the right things are done.

Twene Jonas was mad at the Asantehene and used some unprintable words to describe his person. He insisted that the Asantehene had failed the people of the Ashanti Region [or perhaps the Ashanti Kingdom] by refusing to police the environment and stop “Galamsey”

Following that, many Ghanaians have raised concerns over the unsavoury nature of the speech made by Twene Jonas on the regular where he literally casts aspersions at leaders and described them as “fools”; Asantehene had his fair share.

Twene Jonas has been told to have crossed the limit by insulting the revered Asantehene and would need to pay for his wrong or atone for his mistakes. Some fetish priests and smaller chiefs under the auspices of the Ashanti Kingdom have sent words of equivocation to Twene Jonas warning him to brace himself up for the extraordinary and unexpected.

Following that, Ghanaians have jumped to the defence of Twene Jonas with many suggesting and proferring that the young man has done no wrong “in saying the truth and saying it forthrightly”.

Many of these people believe the Asantehene has failed woefully by sitting aloof and allowing “Galamsey” activities to plague his area.

“If the leader is lamenting to his followers, who should the followers lament to?” —that is how the sentiments of Ghanaians have been summarized.
