Bayern Munich forward, Robert Lewandowski has just been named The Best FIFA Men’s Player of the Year for 2020 after he beat Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to the coveted prize.
He helped his team win the UEFA Champions League in grand style last season, scoring a total of 15 goals ahead of the likes of Erling Braut Haaland (10), Serge Gnabry(9), and Gabriel Jesus (6) amongst others.
The Polish striker has been in a devastating form for a while and he ended up breaking the duopoly of Messi and Ronaldo who have dominated world football for over a decade now. Moments after he won the award, he delivered this acceptance speech;
“I feel fantastic. I am very proud and happy, to be honest, this is a great day for me, and also for my club and colleagues. This award also belongs to my colleagues, the coach, and Bayern Munich in general. It is an incredible feeling, a lot of emotions.
“If you win such an award and share that title with Messi and Ronaldo, that is unbelievable and it means so much to me. A long time ago, I remember I was longing for something like this and now I can win such an award. This really means, regardless of where you come from, all that matters is what you put into it.”
