Lewis Gratz Fell Career 

Her career in civil engineering began in earnest in the 1850s, when he was hired to work on the construction of the Philadelphia and Reading Railroad. He quickly rose through the ranks, becoming chief engineer of the railroad in 1857. In this role, Fell oversaw the construction of numerous bridges and tunnels, as well as the development of new technologies to improve the efficiency of the rail system.

One of his most notable accomplishments was his work on the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, where he served as chief engineer from 1866 to 1872.
