Liberty Phoenix, originally known as Liberty Mariposa Horne in Caracas, Venezuela, on July 5, 1976. She was one of the five children of Arlyn Phoenix and John Lee Bottom, who were both members of the religious cult “Children of God.” Her parents moved the family frequently during her childhood, living in several countries, including Venezuela, Mexico, and Puerto Rico, before settling in California in the early 1980s.

As the youngest member of the Phoenix family, Liberty grew up surrounded by music, creativity, and a passion for social justice. Her older siblings, River, Rain, Joaquin, and Summer Phoenix, all went on to become successful actors and musicians, with River Phoenix gaining worldwide recognition for his roles in “Stand by Me,” “Running on Empty,” and “My Own Private Idaho” before his untimely death in 1993.

Liberty Phoenix made her acting debut at the age of ten, appearing alongside her siblings in the 1986 TV movie “Kate’s Secret.” She continued to act sporadically in films and television shows throughout her teenage years, but it was her music career that gained her the most attention.

In 1990, she formed a band called “The Causey Way” with her husband, Rainer Judd, and several friends. The band, known for their high-energy performances and satirical lyrics, released their first album, “WWCD (What Would Causey Do?)” in 1996. They went on to release two more albums, “With Loving and Open Arms” and “Causey vs. Everything,” before disbanding in 2001.

After The Causey Way disbanded, she focused her attention on her acting career and activism. She appeared in several independent films, including “Girl” (1998) and “Gas Food Lodging” (1992), and became an outspoken advocate for animal rights, environmentalism, and social justice.

In 2005, Liberty Phoenix co-founded “The River Phoenix Center for Peacebuilding” with her sister Rain Phoenix, in memory of their late brother. The center, based in Gainesville, Florida, offers training and resources for conflict resolution and community building, with a focus on empowering youth and creating a more peaceful world.

Liberty Phoenix Husband

Liberty Phoenix was previously married to actor and director, Joaquin Phoenix. The couple met on the set of the movie “Russkies” in 1987 when they were both teenagers, and they started dating shortly after. They got married in 1995 and had three children together: a son named River (who tragically passed away in 1993), a daughter named Rain, and a son named Joaquin.

The couple was known for their activism and involvement in social causes, such as animal rights and environmentalism. They co-founded a non-profit organization called The Peace Alliance, which aims to promote peace and nonviolence around the world.

However, Liberty and Joaquin’s marriage ultimately ended in 2003, and they officially divorced in 2006. Despite their separation, they remain on good terms and continue to co-parent their children together.
