Lindsey Graham Biography
Graham was born on July 9, 1955, in Central, South Carolina, a small town located in the northwestern part of the state. He grew up in a family of modest means, with his parents running a liquor store and pool hall.
Graham attended the University of South Carolina, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology in 1977. He then went on to graduate from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1981.
After law school, Graham entered the United States Air Force, where he served as a judge advocate from 1982 to 1988. He then joined the South Carolina Air National Guard, where he served until 1995, rising to the rank of colonel.
In 1994, Graham ran for the United States House of Representatives from South Carolina’s 3rd congressional district. He won the election and served in the House from 1995 to 2003. In 2002, Graham ran for the United States Senate and won, beginning his tenure in that chamber in 2003. He has since been re-elected three times, most recently in 2020.
