Manchester United could potentially sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this week

Manchester United are considering sacking Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this week, ahead of the club’s game against Tottenham Hotspur this weekend.

The under-fire Norwegian manager, 48, stood by as his team was ripped apart 5 – 0 by Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday.

United have lost five of their last nine games and have not won in their last four Premier League games. Liverpool’s 5-0 thrashing of Manchester United on Sunday was the Red Devils’ worst-ever home defeat to their main rivals.

In the aftermath of the Liverpool debacle, Solskjaer insisted that the squad was on track to succeed under his leadership.

“I believe in myself, and I believe that I am getting close to achieving my goals with the club. I believe that what we’ve done, what I’ve seen, the development, and, of course, the recent results haven’t been good enough, so it’s hands up, which probably raises doubts in anyone’s mind.

“But I have to stay strong, and I believe in what we’ve been doing as a team, the coaching staff and the players. Today’s confidence is at an all-time low.

“Next week, we play Tottenham away, Atalanta in the Champions League, and Manchester City come to town. We must look ahead, sort out our frames of mind, and ensure that we enter the next training session in the proper frame of mind.”

According to the Manchester Evening News, United’s hierarchy is so concerned about Solskjaer’s performance that they are now giving serious consideration’ to removing him from his position.

The MEN previously reported that former Inter Milan and Chelsea coach Antonio Conte is willing to take over as Solskjaer’s replacement but has concerns about United’s structure.

Another free agent coach, Zinedine Zidane, has been linked with the position.
