Finance Minister-designate, Ken Ofori Atta has described former Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu’s public report on the Agyapa deal as a disservice to Ghana’s democracy.

According to him, the failure on the part of Mr Amidu to seek his consent and input before publishing the report on the Agyapa deal where he disclosed very important matters to the public was clearly unfair.

Appearing before the Parliament’s Appointment Committee today and answering questions surrounding the controversial Agyapa deal, Mr Ken Ofori Atta said Mr Amidu’s action and report on the issue did Ghana more harm than good.

“It was quite a bit of cynicism with the transaction and for me, for the House, for such a report to be put out to the public without us, myself as Minister of Finance having a chance to discuss it, I think it’s a disservice to our democracy”.

“A fundamental right that I think we all as a people should be careful about such things and so the speculative issues and the risk associated with most transactions, discussions we are re-submitting to Parliament would enable us to work those things out,” he insisted.
