Martin Lewis is an English financial journalist and broadcaster. Lewis founded the website MoneySavingExpert.com. He sold the website in 2012 to the Moneysupermarket.com group for up to £87 million.

Lewis was born in 1972 at Manchester’s Withington Hospital. His family resided in the Didsbury neighborhood of Manchester.
As a young child, he and his family relocated to the village of Norley in rural Cheshire, close to the Jewish special education school Delamere Forest School, where his father had been appointed headmaster.
When he was 11 years old, his mother Susan Lewis perished in a horseback riding accident that involved a collision with a vehicle. Later in life, he supported the children’s bereavement organization Grief Encounter and promoted life insurance.

Lewis has a sister. His father served as the headmaster of a Chester school for children with special needs. On May 7, 1984, his mother died as a result of a motorcycling accident. On May 31, 2009, Lewis wed weather anchor Lara Lewington of 5 News.

Lewis worked as a producer for the BBC Business Unit after earning his journalism degree from Cardiff University. He also served as an editor for the business segment of BBC Radio 4’s Today program. Lewis next changed to the satellite station Simply Money, which is hosted by Angela Rippon, and developed his character as a “Money Saving Expert.”
The channel had terrible viewing numbers right away, and its main supporter, Invest TV Resources, withdrew in March 2001. Lewis was among the 51 employees who nearly all lost their jobs. Lewis contributed to a “Deal of the Week” column in the Sunday Express following the failure of Simply Money. On the afternoon program Open House with Gloria Hunniford on Channel 5, Lewis also hosted “Money Saving Expert” segments.
Lewis joined the BBC once more, this time serving as a business and personal finance reporter for BBC One Breakfast News. Lewis hosted the It Pays to Watch! peak-time program on Five in 2008 and the Make Me Rich daytime television series on ITV in 2005.
As a “Money Saving Expert,” Lewis has appeared on Good Morning Britain, Lorraine, and various other magazine shows. He has also produced money-related special editions for ITV’s Tonight. Currently, Lewis can be seen on ITV’s This Morning and occasionally as a guest on other news and other shows. He started co-hosting The Martin Lewis Money Show in 2012, first with Saira Khan and most recently with Angellica Bell.
