The current North Dakota Governor, Doug Burgum and his wife Kathryn are widely known in the city of North Dakota and America.

Burgum, full name Douglas James Burgum, is not only a politician, but also a businessman, and investor. He became North Dakota’s 33rd governor after winning the election in 2016. Katherine Kilbourne and Joseph Boyd Burgum are known to be his parents.

Burgum attended NDSU for his undergraduate studies and earned his degree there in 1978. He submitted an application to the Stanford Graduate School of Business during his senior year at NDSU. He graduated from Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business in 1980.

After that, he relocated to Chicago and began working there for McKinsey & Company as a management consultant. Earlier in 1983, he mortgaged a few farms and used the money from the sale to launch the accounting software company “Great Plains Software”. In 2001, Burgum sold the company to Microsoft for $1.1 billion.

Burgum informed the people of North Dakota in 2016 that he intended to run for governor as a Republican. He lost the election to Wayne Stenehjem for attorney general mostly because he lacked formal political experience. He defeated Stenehjem in the primary two months later.

Burgum announced in March 2023 that he would be interested in seeking the presidency of the United States in 2024. He provided $20 gift cards in July 2023 in exchange for contributions of any size to his primary campaign. He took this action in an effort to meet the minimum number of individual donations needed to take part in the opening Republican primary debate. Burgum qualified for the debate as a result of his team’s victorious outcome.

Doug Burgum has gone through two marriages and one divorce. He tied the knot with Karen Stoker, a stunning woman, as his first wife in 1991. Sadly, the marriage disintegrated in 2003. He fell in love once more in 2016 and married Kathryn Helgaas, the current first lady of North Dakota.

Jamestown, North Dakota, the place of Kathryn’s birth, served as her home. She has three brothers and sisters, the second youngest of whom is her. At the family business, where John Deere had employed her family for more than 35 years, she started off working in the parts department. Jamestown High School was where she finished her high school education, where she also participated in varsity sports, chorus, tennis, cheerleading, and student government. Her degree there was one with honours.

After graduating from high school, she attended Arizona State University to acquire her undergraduate degree in retail business, and she later attended the University of North Texas to obtain her MBA in business administration in human resources.

Kathryn Burgum was appointed first lady of North Dakota in December 2016, following the inauguration of her husband Doug as the state’s 33rd governor. Kathryn prioritises projects aimed at removing the stigma and shame connected to the chronic disease of addiction in the communities of the state as the First Lady of North Dakota.
