In 2022, despite never having competed internationally, he made it to the finals of the World’s Strongest Man competition and lifted an incredible 475 kg (1,047 lb), the third-heaviest weight in the history of the sport.

On April 23, 2023, Mitchell Hooper stunned the world by winning the 2023 World’s Strongest Man competition. Standing at 1.93m and weighing 140kg, he is not as heavily muscled as some of his competitors, but he has a unique combination of static strength and speed under load that makes him an extremely versatile athlete.

Mitchell Hooper is not only a world-class athlete but also a certified strength coach with a passion for helping others improve their strength, learn about biomechanics, and train for optimal performance while minimizing the risk of injury. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Human Kinetics from the University of Guelph and a Master’s degree in Clinical Exercise Physiology from the University of Sydney.

Before transitioning to strongman, Mitchell Hooper participated in a range of sports, including golf, American football, marathon running, and ice hockey. He spent ten years playing ice hockey and later began competing in lifting at the state and national levels, setting national records in the -120kg weight class.

At the age of 27, Mitchell Hooper is happily married to Ashley Harrison, who is known for being a supportive partner that attends all of his strongman events to cheer him on. After his hard work and dedication, Mitchell won two out of three events on Day Four of the competition, ultimately dethroning Tom Stoltman, a two-time WSM champion, and claiming the coveted title of World’s Strongest Man.

Ashley’s joy was evident as she jumped into Mitchell’s arms upon the final Atlas stone being loaded, celebrating his incredible achievement together.
