Mo Bamba is an American professional basketball player for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Bamba was born on May 12, 1998, in Harlem, New York, to immigrants from the Ivory Coast, Lancine Bamba and Aminata Johnson. The grandparents of Bamba were raised and born in Mali. Sidiki Johnson, his older brother, was a college basketball player for Arizona, Providence, and Wabash Valley.
Ibrahim Johnson, a distant relative, played college basketball at a number of different institutions, including Farmingdale State and Montevallo. At the age of six, Bamba developed a passion for basketball due to the prominence of the sport in his area.
Mo Bamba college career
On November 10, 2017, against Northwestern State, Bamba made his official college debut, tallying 15 points and 8 rebounds in a routing victory. He had 13 points, 10 rebounds, and five blocks in a rout of Lipscomb eight days later. Bamba had a season-high 22 points, 15 rebounds, and 8 blocks on December 30 against Kansas. Bamba would have a season-high 16 rebounds and 10 points on January 1, 2018, in a 74-70 overtime victory over Iowa State.
On January 27, 2018, five days after setting his previous career high of 24 points in a victory against Iowa State, he would set a new mark for points scored with 25 points and 15 rebounds in an 85-72 victory over Ole Miss.
Five days after equaling his previous career-high of 16 rebounds with 16 points in a hard-fought 74-73 double overtime defeat to Baylor, Bamba would set a new career-high of 18 rebounds with 10 points in a 77-66 victory against #23-ranked Oklahoma on February 17.
At the conclusion of the regular season for Texas, Bamba was selected to the All-Defensive Team, All-Newcomer Team, and Second Team of the Big 12 Conference. His per-game averages were 12.9 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 0.5 assists.
