Efya, born Jane Boafowaa Yahaya Awindor, has spoken publicly about the importance of artistic partnerships.
In an interview, the ‘Super Super’ singer said that her duets with the famous rapper Sarkodie are her favourites.
She went on to say that among the over 120 musicians she’s collaborated with, the ‘Better Days’ rapper was by far the most challenging.
In an exclusive interview with Joy Fm’s Kwame Dadzie on Showbiz A-Z, the famous singer/songwriter said, “I have worked with almost 120 artistes.” So, the projects I worked on with Sarkodie were the most challenging.
The singer, who has been featured on songs by Sarkodie (including “I’m in Love with You”), Akwaboah (“Hold Me Down”), Bisa K. Dei (“One of Your Own”), and others, said on X (formerly Twitter) that artists who had not released songs on which she had appeared in the previous three years should either come for a retake or not release the work at all.
According to the composer, things change with the passage of time as artists improve their trade by the day, therefore, songs that were recorded approximately three years ago must really be rewritten and fine-tuned to match the current taste of music listeners.
Efya elaborated by saying that each year brings new kicks and loops, which is why songs can’t be stuck in the past.
“Nowadays it depends on the mic you are using. There is a certain way that I need things to be. The upgrade is not easy. When it’s done, it has to be maintained. It’s not really that bad. It’s no shade or anything. Come let’s make the song better”.
”So if you want to really release the song now and appeal to the ears of the people now you need to make it something that will be a hit now, not the previous one,” she said.
