Fast-rising Nigerian act Crayon has paid homage to her mom and all the sacrifices she made to ensure his dream of becoming a mainstream musician materialises.
Known by his government name as Charles Chibueze Chukwu, the youngster spoke to Vanguard recently and said his mom sold fruits in Iyana Oba, Lagos to fund the formative stage of his career.
Being the family’s eldest child, Crayon his mom was very supportive and even provided him money for recording sessions.
He said while his mom did everything to sustain his career but his father somewhat kicked against the idea.
Crayon claims that because his father used to sell records and MC events, he frequently took some of the CDs, listened to the music, and tried to imitate the artists.
He claimed that when he was between the ages of 12 and 13, he intended to pursue a career in music and joined the church choir, but owing to stage fear, he left.
