NAACP Image Awards 2023: ‘Wakanda Forever,’ ‘The Woman King’ Among Top Film Nominees

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) has finally revealed the names of the 2023 award nominees.

Popular movies selected for this year’s NAACP include; Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and The Woman King. The two movies are the movies with the highest nominations in the film categories.

Black Panther; Wkanda got 12 nominations, while The Woman King got 9 nominations.  Black Panther star Angela Bassett and The Woman King star Viola Davis were each nominated for the NAACP Images Awards’ top prize of entertainer of the year.

Aside from Black Panther and The Woman King, other movies that got multiple nominations include, Till with six nominations, and Emancipation with five nods. ABC’s Abbott Elementary also received nine nods; the highest nominations for television and streaming.

Beyoncé and Kendrick Lamar scored the most nominations in the music recording categories with five each. categories.

This year’s nominees have conveyed a wide range of authentic stories and diverse experiences that have resonated with many in our community, and we’re proud to recognize their outstanding achievements and performances,” said NAACP president and CEO Derrick Johnson said in a statement.

Connie Orlando, BET executive VP, also added; “We take pride in recognizing the trailblazing achievements and artistry of this year’s esteemed nominees and celebrating the powerful legacy of the NAACP. We look forward to bringing the Image Awards back to Pasadena in front of a live audience and delivering unforgettable moments that epitomize the brilliance of the Black community.”
