Embattled Menzgold Boss, Nana Appiah Mensah, better known as NAM1 arrived at the Kotoka International Airport via Emirates Airline flight EK787 at 10.58 a.m. on Thursday 11, July 2019.
Upon his arrival, his hands were handcuffed behind him where he was whisked by the security personnel from Interpol Ghana and the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) for defrauding about 16,000 people of GH¢1.68 billion on the name of investing their monies.
Nana Appiah Mensah was arraigned before the court on Friday 12, July 2019 where he was charged with two counts of abetment to defraud by false pretence and two counts of abetment to carry out banking business without a licence, contrary to Section 6 (1) of the Banks and Specialised Deposit-taking Institutions Act, 2016 (Act 930).
He was denied bail as he is set to reappear in court on July 26, 2019, but according to a report sighted online, the Chief Executive Officer of gold dealership firm, Menzgold Ghana Limited, Nana Appiah Mensah aka NAM1 is not in police custody as has been claimed.
According to the report, OXY FM boss, Alfred Kwame Larb claimed that the NAM1 is not in Police custody as being widely speculated but rather the Menzgold boss is cooling off in his East Legon residence.
Though the OXZY FM boss could not provide any evidence to that effect, he explained further on Accra-based Rainbow Radio that with the police custody, when one is influential, he is allowed to go home in the quiet; stressing that that is the circumstance in which NAM1 found himself.
NAM1 was arrested in Dubai in December 2018 in connection with an alleged fraudulent gold deal and has since been in the Custody of Dubai authorities while an Interpol alert was placed on him by Ghana officials.
