A few days ago, Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin threatened to publish the names of MPs who have tested positive for COVID-19 and show up in Parliament regardless. Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, Member of Parliament for South Dayi voiced out his displeasure with the speaker’s decision.
In an interview with Joy FM in Accra, he highlighted the confidentiality of medical issues saying, “I am not in favor because these are medical matters.”
“Medical issues are confidential matters, but like I said speakership or leadership, they will have the results so for instance, my brother cannot know if I am positive or negative of covid-19 unless he shares that with me,“ he continued.
Speaking on the reason members of parliament have been unable to test for the virus, he said, “Some members too were not available at the time that they were allotted to test.
“For instance on our side, I knew of about eight members who are not available to test. Some too decided to do private tests and to submit the result to parliament,” Mr. Dafeamekpor added.
According to reports, infected MPs will be prevented from entering Parliament effective February 8.
