‘Now that E-levy has been passed, solve all Ghana’s problems’ – Asiedu Nketia to Akufo Addo

Johnson Asiedu Nketia, NDC General Secretary, says Ghana’s issues would be rectified shortly.

He said the incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration has long stated that the e-levy is the cure to Ghana’s woes, thus Ghanaians would have to wait.

“The entire process has been flipped upside down,” he told TV3’s Roland Walker after President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo gave the 2022 State of the Nation Address (SONA) on March 30. We have a president who claims to believe in the rule of law while pushing his followers to break the law.

“I wasn’t in Parliament yesterday, but I observed misuse of all House procedures. Technically, I don’t think the correct processes were followed in the approval, but there is a notion that an erroneous judgment remains a decision until it is rectified. We’ll go back to the drawing board and see if we can keep fighting the E-levy.

However, whatever approval they say they have made will just expose them more. Because we live in a society where whatever goes wrong is blamed on the non-passage of the E-levy, including contractor payments, common fund non-release, GETFund non-release, health insurance, etc.

In the following weeks, either you fix all of these issues or you reveal yourselves as a dishonest administration.

Deductions for the recently enacted e-levy will begin in May, according to Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

Mr. Ofori-Atta told the press after the State of the Nation speech in Accra that the Ghana Revenue Authority must configure its systems.

According to the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), their systems should be ready by early May.
