Barfour Asare Kofi Isreal is a member of the Communications team of the governing NPP in the Jaman South constituency in the Bono Region who was flogged for insulting the Queen-mother.
Queen mother of the Drobo Traditional Area Nana Yaa Ansuaa called for the flogging of Mr Barfour following reports that he has used unprintable words on her person.
This prompted the traditional authorities to give him 40 strong stokes in the palace to serve as a deterrent to all political communicators, who in the name of defending their parties bring local authorities and the power they wield into disrepute.
Mr Barfour was not only flogged but was also given a stern warning by the traditional authorities to desist from the use of foul words on their person in his political communication duties or risk being expelled from their jurisdiction…the Drobo Traditional Area.
The genesis of this misfortune for Barfour Asare Kofi Isreal came as a result of his inability to accept the defeat by the sitting Member of Parliament for the Jaman South constituency Hon Yaw Afful who lost in the parliamentary race to NDC’s Hon Okofo Darteh.
Following that the Drobo Traditional Council was accused by Mr Barfour and other NPP functionaries in the area for masterminding their defeat especially when their preferred candidate who happened to be their cousin Hon Prince Marfo lost in the NPP internal parliamentary primaries in the lead-up to the election.
The photos below give a vivid account of how Mr Barfour was subjected to this corporal punishment by receiving 40 strokes of canes to inject some level of decorum into his speech and utterances especially when he is addressing members of the Drobo Traditional Area in the Bono Region of Ghana.
