The Suame lawmaker, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu is proposing that the NPP flagbearer for the 2024 presidential elections be chosen via a consensus by the party.
He was of the opinion that, given the woeful performance by the party in the 2020 parliamentary elections, where the party lost so many seats, it is important that they position themselves well to recoup all those lost seats from the NDC.
Speaking in a recent interview, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu said that the only way forward for the party is unity, and coming into a consensus to choose one person to lead them other than through primaries to choose a leader would do them some good.
“Because of what has happened to the party in 2020 parliamentary election where instead of gaining more seats who had our number reduced from 169 to 137 we need to reposition this party.
If we have to reposition this party we must be united.
Even in the choice of the Presidential candidate, if possible, it should be by consensus.
If we want to retain power, we must be united and shun any abrasive conduct in Presidential primaries,”
Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu said in an interview on Kasapa FM.
Ghanaians are in anticipation of who represents the NPP heading into the 2024 elections, with Alan Kyeremanteng in the running, with others also making a case for the current Vice President to represent the party.
We wait to see if Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu’s proposal for a candidate to be chosen by consensus will be considered.
We wait to see what happens.
