Former President John Mahama has accused Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta of Ghana’s economic problems.
He said the President’s inability to dismiss Mr. Ofori-Atta is worsening the issue.
“To be clear, we’re in this mess because of an untouchable Finance Minister relying on his Databank workers and neglecting the advice of seasoned experts at the Finance Ministry. He has been left to run this economy into the ground’.
We’re in this mess because of the so-called solid Economic Management Team, who over the last several years has been unable to call the President’s cousin (Ofori-Atta) to order when he embarked on a reckless borrowing spree”.

Speaking at a lecture on the economy on Thursday, he stressed that the incompetence of the sector minister and the entire Akufo-Addo regime account for the depreciation of the Cedi and the other economic challenges plaguing the country.
“For the avoidance of doubt, we in the NDC would not have dared or been permitted to be reckless or irresponsible in managing the public purse and the nation’s resources as the NPP has done.
We wouldn’t have been careless, and society wouldn’t have let us do what they did. Government has many problems. “But nothing we accomplished or its effect has come anywhere near close to the calamity unfolding before our eyes today,” he continued.
He promised that the future NDC administration will rescue Ghana via wise economic reforms and policies.
He advised the present administration to eliminate government appointments to save the economy.
