Patrick Duffy Career
Early in the 1970s, Duffy made an appearance in a Taco Bell commercial as an employee speaking about an Enchirito. He was cast as Mark Harris in the brief-lived television series Man from Atlantis in 1977. He received his major break in the character of Bobby Ewing on the prime-time soap opera Dallas, opposite Barbara Bel Geddes and Larry Hagman, when the series was cancelled in early 1978.
The program achieved international success. Despite its popularity, Duffy decided to leave the show in 1985, just before his character was shown to be killed off.
His career and the program were both in decline, but he made a comeback in 1986 in the famed shower scene that made the entire 1985–1986 season “just a dream.” After then, Duffy stayed on the show until its discontinuation in 1991.
Between 1979 and 1982, he also made multiple appearances in the spinoff series Knots Landing. Duffy directed a number of Dallas episodes during the course of the show’s 13-year existence.
Along with being well-known for his work on Dallas, Duffy has also dabbled in singing. In 1983, he and French singer Mireille Mathieu had a hit song together called “Together We’re Strong” in Europe.
In April 1983, the single peaked at No. 5 in the Netherlands.
When Dallas’ run came to an end in 1991, Duffy started playing Frank Lambert on the family comedy Step by Step, where he co-starred with Suzanne Somers.
Duffy directed multiple episodes of the show, which ran until 1998. He also had appearances in two Dallas reunion television movies from the 1990s, War of the Ewings (1998) and J.R. Returns (1996), both of which he co-produced. Several of his Dallas co-stars have reconnected with him both on and off-screen, most notably for the non-fiction television program Dallas Reunion: Return to Southfork in 2004.
Later, Duffy continued to act in sporadic guest or voice acting roles on shows including Justice League and Touched by an Angel, as well as Family Guy (where he co-starred in a live-action scene with Victoria Principal as they parodied the Dallas shower scene). In the television movies Falling in Love With the Girl Next Door and Desolation Canyon, Duffy played the lead role.
He started playing Stephen Logan, a recurrent character, on the daytime serial opera The Bold and the Beautiful in 2006. He presided over Bingo America, a GSN game program that featured some interactive elements, from April to July 2008.
