According to a 3News report, chaos erupted at the University of Ghana, Legon when some students from the Commonwealth Hall and Mensah Sarbah Hall clashed.

Per the content of the report sighted, the clash occurred as a result of an effort by campus security to prevent the students from holding a combined press conference in protest of the management’s recent decision to reassess the residential status of enrolled students in the two halls.

The students did not have the authorization to hold the news conference, according to the University Security, which was later bolstered by officers from the Ghana Police Service.

The management’s choice, which was announced in a communique on December 14th, was not acceptable to the students, who wished to voice their disapproval. The verdict states that all current male residents of the all-male Commonwealth Hall and Mensa Sarbah Hall will not be allowed to return to their residences or any of the regular halls.

“They are to be randomly assigned to available rooms in any of the UGEL and private hostels,” the communique said.
