Cantankerous ace-highlife musician, Gyedu Blay Ambolley has made it emphatic that radio stations must stop playing anything dancehall and focus on Highlife basically to protect and preserve Ghana’s musical culture.

Talking about how important the genre is, he said it is the mother of dance music in the world, which means any dance music today’s roots can be traced to Highlife music.

He, therefore, blamed the collapse of the highlife genre on the missing link between the old Highlife musicians and the new generation.

Gyedu Blay Ambolley made this proclamation when speaking at the launch of ‘Highlife Is Alive Fan Club’ in Accra.

To his best knowledge, every country has their musical identity and the only musical identity of Ghana is Highlife music and not dancehall or reggae which has taken over our media space.
