‘Rawlings Will Receive A 21 Gun-Salute On Wednesday’– Oppong Nkrumah Discloses

Information Minister-designate Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah says former President Jerry John Rawlings will be accorded a Commander-in-Chief status at his burial service on Wednesday.

This means Ghana Armed Forces would, therefore, fire a 21-gun salute and offer other military courtesies to him.

Addressing the media in Accra Monday, he said the family of the former president had requested that no recording gadgets should be allowed at the Lobby of the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), where the former President’s mortal remains laid-in-state.

Meanwhile, a photo of the former president lying state at his ongoing 4-day funeral which began on Sunday, January 24, 2021, has surfaced online.

The picture which original source remains unknown has been shared several times on social media, showing the face of the late former President almost as if he was merely asleep and could be nudged to wake up.

Spotting his afro grey hair and beard which became his signature look in the Covid-19 outbreak, Mr. Rawlings was dressed in full military honours although the uniform is not entirely visible from the picture.
