Liotta was born on 18 December 1954 in Newark, New Jersey. He landed in the orphanage and at just 6 months, adopted by May and Alfred Liotta. Ray has a biological sister, one biological half-brother, and five biological half-sisters.

Liotta died in his sleep on 26 May 2022 at the age of 67 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. At that time, he was shooting the movie titled “Dangerous Waters“. Ray was also engaged to Jacy Nittolo at the time of death.
