Roy Orbison, officially known as Roy Kelton Orbison was an American singer, songwriter, and musician born on April 23, 1936, in Vernon, Texas.

In 1956, Sam Phillips of Sun Records signed adolescent rockabilly and country-and-western singer Roy Orbison, but Monument Records was his biggest hit.

Roy Orbison sang passionately, wrote complicated songs, and sang dark, dramatic ballads. Critics called him “The Caruso of Rock” and “The Big O” for his operatic music.

His 22 Billboard Top 40 hits were released between 1960 and 1970. His Top 10 successes included “Only the Lonely,” “Running Scared,” “Crying,” “In Dreams,” and “Oh, Pretty Woman” (1964).

He performed standing still in black clothing and dark shades. He said he never danced on stage since his songs didn’t include instrumental passages.

Roy Orbison was a legendary singer and composer. He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, and Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum.

Roy Orbison won five Grammys and a Lifetime Achievement Award. At 52, he died at his mother’s home on Tuesday, December 6, 1988. Heart attack killed Roy Orbison.

Nashville and Los Angeles held memorials. Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery buried him unmarked.

Roy Orbison was born to Orbie Lee Orbison and Nadine Shultz in Vernon, Texas, in the United States (mother).

In Texas, his father dug oil wells and fixed cars and planes, and his mother took care of the house.

Orbie Lee Orbison was born in 1913 and died in 1984. Nadine Shultz was also born in 1913 and died in 1992.
