Rupert Murdoch Sons: Meet Lachlan Murdoch And James Murdoch

It is now apparent that he is going to step down as chairman of his companies, Fox Corporation and News Corporation. That means that one of his sons, Lachlan Murdoch, will take over the management of those companies. With James Murdoch being his other son, people have been looking into who Rupert Murdoch’s sons are.

An American media mogul, investor, and business titan named Keith Rupert Murdoch was born in Australia. He is the owner of hundreds of regional, local, and international media outlets through his company News Corp, including the newspapers The Sun and The Times in the UK, The Daily Telegraph, Herald Sun, and The Australian in Australia, The Wall Street Journal, and The New York Post in the US, as well as the publishing company HarperCollins and the television networks Sky News Australia and Fox News (via the Fox Corporation).

Rupert Murdoch Steps Down as Fox and News Corp. Chairman

The news is everywhere now, and one of Rupert Murdoch’s sons is set to take over, but what are the details? On Thursday, the powerful right-wing media tycoon who founded and managed one of the most significant news empires in the world announced that he would stand down as chairman of Fox Corporation and News Corporation.

“For my entire professional life, I have been engaged daily with news and ideas, and that will not change,” Murdoch, 92, wrote in a memo to employees. “But the time is right for me to take on different roles, knowing that we have truly talented teams.”

His resignation comes at a crucial time for the media sector as long-established entertainment juggernauts deal with a radical shift in the conventional television and film industries and consumers quickly turn to streaming services.

Rupert Murdoch Sons: Who Are Lachlan Murdoch And James Murdoch?

Lachlan Murdoch and James Murdoch are the business magnate, media proprietor, and investor Rupert Murdoch’s sons, but he also has four other children. His other children are Prudence MacLeod, his eldest child; Elisabeth Murdoch; Grace Murdoch; and Chloe Murdoch.

Rupert Murdoch has been married four times: Patricia Booke from 1956–1967, Anna Maria Torv from 1967-1999, Wendi Deng from 1999–2013, and Jerry Hall from 2016-2022. For a man so influential, you wonder why all four of his marriages didn’t work out.

Rupert Murdoch’s sons, Lachlan Murdoch and James Murdoch, have done so well for themselves. Lachlan Murdoch was born in London, UK, on September 8, 1971, and James Murdoch was born in London on December 13, 1972.

Before leaving his managerial positions at the multinational media firm at the end of July 2005, Murdoch’s elder son Lachlan, who was formerly the Deputy Chief Operating Officer at News Corporation and publisher of the New York Post, was seen as the corporation’s heir apparent.

The only Murdoch son still actively involved in the business operations after Lachlan’s departure was James Murdoch, Chief Executive of satellite television provider British Sky Broadcasting since November 2003, even though Lachlan has consented to stay on the board of News Corporation. Rupert Murdoch’s sons are making him proud, and after announcing his retirement, one of them, Lachlan Murdoch, is set to take his place.

Lachlan Murdoch To Take His Father, Rupert’s Place

Murdoch’s eldest son, Lachlan, who already holds the position of chief executive of Fox Corporation, will take over as the only chairman of both businesses. Lachlan was referred to by his father as “a passionate, principled leader.” Although Rupert gave the impression that Lachlan would continue the right-wing editorial slant his media firms are known for, it is uncertain how Fox will go under Lachlan.

“My father firmly believed in freedom, and Lachlan is absolutely committed to the cause,” Murdoch told employees in his memo. “Self-serving bureaucracies are seeking to silence those who would question their provenance and purpose. Elites have open contempt for those who are not members of their rarefied class. Most of the media is in cahoots with those elites, peddling political narratives rather than pursuing the truth.”
