Sacked NPP MP, Amoako Asiamah wins Fomena parliamentary seat as independent candidate

The former Member of Parliament for Fomena in the Ashanti Region, Andrew Amoako Asiamah who was sacked by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has won the seat as an independent candidate.

The Speaker of Parliament Prof Aaron Mike Oquaye declared the Fomena seat in the house vacant when Mr Asiamah decided to go independent after citing some underdealings in the NPP primaries.

This did not go down with the NPP who said they have sacked him with President Akufo-Addo reiterating that he can’t work with an independent candidate.

Well, at the end of the December parliamentary polls in the Fomena constituency, Mr Andrew Amoako Asiamah polled 12,805 votes to win the seat and will be returning to parliament on January 7 2021.

He beat competition from NPP’s Mr Philip Ofori-Asante, NDC’s Christina Ama Ranson and Eric Appiagyei who polled 10,798, 2,608 and 158 votes respectively.

The total votes cast was 26,616 with 26,369 valid votes and 247 rejected ballots.

Meanwhile, the NPP is looking forward to convincing Mr Andrew Amoako Asiamah to rejoin the party as the party risks losing the majority in parliament to the NDC.
