Liverpool forward Sadio Mane has been crowned the African Footballer of the year 2019 after beating team mate Mohammed Salah and Manchester City’s Rihad Mahrez.
This is the first time the Senegalese international has won Africa’s topmost award followed his blistering form for both club and country for some time now.
Mane received his award from four-time winner Samuel Eto’o at a ceremony held in the Red Sea resort of Hurghada in Egypt.
Mané becomes the second Senegalese to win the award after another Liverpool player, El Hadji-Diouf, in 2001 and 2002.
